In early 2022 the Child Protection Hub - in cooperation with the University of Cardiff and country researchers in 7 countries - has conducted a mixed-methods study of supervision for professionals in multidisciplinary child protection teams.

There is a regional report available, as well as individual country reports. The research discovered that supervision is defined differently among countries, some thought of it as a way of improving practice, others as emotional support provided to caseworkers, while still others thought of it as a managerial function.

While all people who had experience with supervision regarded the importance of it very highly, the study raised concerns about lack of supervision in many places, leading to poorer quality of service and burnout for the worker. Also, in many places supervision is being funded by projects, which ultimately leads to short-term engagement.
