For over two decades, Terre des hommes (Tdh) has been actively engaged in Kosovo, strengthening the national child protection system to improve the prevention, protection, and quality of services for vulnerable children and their families.
Our areas of expertise range from direct psychosocial interventions with vulnerable children, their families, and communities, to the education and empowerment of local and national governmental institutions, as well as policy influencing, with a focus on the development and implementation of adequate child-sensitive structures, policies, standards, and procedures.
Our impact in 2025
Child protection
We advocate for better policies and services, focusing on the Law on Child Protection. Tdh strengthens the capacities of professionals working with at-risk children and promotes cross-sectoral cooperation. We also provide direct support through Kosovo's first daycare centres for children in street situations, offering safe spaces, education, and psychosocial aid.
Children and young people on the move
We support migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers with psychological first aid, material and administrative support, and mental health counselling. We help children access education, offer training for young people, promote inclusion of vulnerable communities, and boost cooperation in the Western Balkans to combat human trafficking.
Access to justice for children and young people
We improve justice for children in Kosovo by aligning juvenile justice with child protection. This includes developing administrative instructions, training judges and prosecutors on child-sensitive practices in collaboration with the Academy of Justice and the Judicial Council, and contributing to working groups that draft key laws to strengthen the legal framework for children's rights.

Our Day Care Centres in Prishtina and Prizren aim to prevent and reduce the time children spend on the streets by offering them a safe space, food, educational activities, psycho-social services, psychological counseling, medical support and socio-cultural services and others.
In 2025, we provided essential services to 344 vulnerable children (190 boys, 154 girls) and 115 parents (98 mothers, 17 fathers) through the Day Care Centers in Prishtina and Prizren, fostering holistic support and development.
Additionally, we supported 1,029 children (448 girls, 581 boys) through emotional health services delivered by the staff of the Day Care Centres and mobile teams across both municipalities.
