ROBIN - Reinforcing cOmpetences to Build Inclusion through a New learning methodology

Terre des hommes in Romania developed a project named "Reinforcing cOmpetences to Build Inclusion through a New learning methodology (ROBIN)", ref. no. 2015-1-RO01-KA204-015001.

The main aim of the project was to develop an innovative learning methodology that would reinforce educators’ own personal and social capacities for successful social integration of children on the move, currently enrolled in second chance programs.

The objectives of the projects were:

  1. Developing an integrated learning methodology that ensures active learning, coaching and support based on experiential learning by means of psychosocial activities;
  2. Improving the social, technical, personal and methodological competences of adult educators;
  3. Equipping educators with tools to enhance their capability to socially integrate children on the move and develop their global life skills;
  4. Building a network of educators from second chance programs to cooperate and exchange best practices.

With the news title "Offering an Alternative to children on the move in Second Chance Programs", Robin project was presented to the audience of Childhub at the beginning of the project.

By means of this project, educators enhanced their competences needed to provide an education space where children could discover and develop their interests and re-engage on the path to building their life projects, thus lowering the level of early leaving from this school system, consequently preventing children in a migrating situation to be at risk of exclusion.

This project was carried out transnationally ( with partners from Austria, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria) as the phenomenon of children on the move is widely spread at EU level with lots of similarities regarding their early school leaving and need for enrolment in second chance programmes.

The project started by analysing the current learning methodologies in the 5 countries used by educators in second chance programmes by means of desk research and interviews with experts. Then a needs analysis of the target group was done by organizing in each country  focus group discussions with educators and also consulting them through an online survey.

The research findings represented the milestone for developing the innovative learning methodology for educators based on inclusive teaching strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of backgrounds (especially migrant, cultural), learning styles, and abilities in which students feel equally valued.

The main outputs/ activities of the project ROBIN were (click for more information and for download in the language versions available):
