Vacancy: Regional Human Resources Manager, Europe Region

Start date: As soon as possible.

Contract: One year, full-time employment contract under Hungarian laws, renewable. Tdh is committed to long-term employment for this position.

Salary: Ranging EUR 2500 - 3000 gross (EUR 1700 – 2000 net) depending on skills and experience, paid in local currency.

Location: Budapest, Hungary with regular travels to other countries in Europe region.

Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss child relief agency. Founded in 1960, we are committed to improving the lives of millions of the world's most vulnerable children. Through our innovative protection and health projects, we provide assistance to over three million children and their families in almost forty countries each year. In Europe, Tdh intervenes directly or indirectly in many countries, relying on teams based in Hungary (Budapest), Albania, Greece, Kosovo, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Greece. We work mainly in child protection, protection of children and youth in migration and access to justice. The Regional Office has been operating in Budapest since 2006.


Tdh in Europe is undergoing a major organizational transformation in line with its regionalization and decentralisation strategy, which foresees the further development of a regional hub operated from Budapest and the establishment of innovative programmatic management logic.

Based on the progress already achieved and on the strategy of the Foundation in the region, the Regional HR Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Europe Region, will continue developing and stabilizing HR processes and procedures for seven countries in scope of the operations. S/he will support and advise human resources administration and the management teams in their daily work for all human resources related issues. The Regional HR Manager role provides full-cycle human resources support to the Terre des hommes Foundation’s Europe Region delegations and offices.


  • Develop and maintain HR strategies and programmes to support Tdh’s Europe Region mission, vision and values;
  • Assist the Head of Region in any organisational restructuring required to effect the delivery of Tdh’s strategy within the region especially in the context of multi-country delegations;
  • Design, plan, and implement HR systems, policies, procedures and best practices to strengthen country and regional HR functions;
  • Manage the regional implementation of Tdh’s global HR policies as they are developed and become available; and contribute to their development;
  • Hire and orient a new staff (HR Project Manager) and provide functional supervision;
  • Develop strategies to improve work relationships, build morale, improve results and retention;
  • Encourage country leads, regional staff, middle managers and others to develop a 360° feedback culture;
  • Provide guidance, support and advice to local HR focal points to ensure consistency of approach across the Region;
  • Manage and resolve employee relation issues;
  • Manage recruitment and position changes for the Regional Office and regional roles;
  • Build strong relationships with countries and programme leadership;
  • Provide support and advice to programme and country leads around recruitment, performance appraisals, HR policy interpretation, compensation & benefits, employee relations issues, career development, and execute appropriate actions up to and including terminations;
  • Collaborate with other members of the Global HR team on various projects and initiatives;
  • Lead on Secure-based Leadership trainings and follow-ups
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks and assignments in support of overall regional HR management.


  • University degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in a relevant field;
  • 5+ years of experience in general human resources management with 2+ years of experience in a managerial role;
  • Strong organizational, planning, prioritizing and administrative skills; ability to self-direct in a fast-paced, multi-task environment;
  • Credible HR professional with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization;
  • Experience in working with or in large international organisations; experience in INGOs, social enterprises or international consulting companies is an advantage;
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses;
  • Strong leadership, facilitation and influencing skills to support and counsel others;
  • Proven experience in international recruitment processes for senior management positions;
  • Very good practical knowledge of labour laws in EU countries;
  • High level of integrity, dependability and confidentiality;
  • Self-controlled with a high level of stress tolerance;
  • Ability to learn from experiences, capitalize on mistakes and seize opportunities;
  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory, knowledge of Hungarian is an asset.

  • Raising awareness within the Foundation on violence against children;
  • Providing guidance to employees and others and defining expectations when it comes to preventing, raising, denouncing and responding to issues of child abuse;
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by selectively recruiting employees and others;
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children.
