Communications Officer in Romania

Terre des hommes is looking for a Communication Officer to join its team in Romania. The successful candidate speaks English (= working language) and Romanian fluently.

Duty Station: Bucharest, with occasional travel

Working time: part time (30 hours)

Reporting to: Country Representative

Deadline for application: 25 January 2018

Start date: February 2018

We offer a 1-year labour contract, with a possibility of extension.
Salary range: 2175 – 2300 Lei net

Main tasks
Coordination and monitoring of external communications activities, including among others:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of communication strategies;
  • Coordinate and oversee the development and production of publications, newsletters etc.;
  • Manage and regularly update the websites;
  • Proofread and edit reports, publications, text;
  • Support the team in project communication and advocacy;
  • Manage the contacts database and the dessimination of communication materials;
  • Contribute to the presentation of best practices and lessons learned;
  • Assist in developing project proposals and project reports.

Knowledge, Attitude and Experience Required

  • At least 3 years of experience in communication, public relations;
  • Experience in coordinating and providing support for communication at national level;
  • Ability to lobby, communicate and build coalitions with various stakeholders;
  • Experience in grant writing and donor reporting;
  • Strong skills in editing external publications, websites;
  • Ability to work in a team in a consensual manner and to encourage full participation;
  • Ability to multi-task, handle pressure, work with limited supervision;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 100% fluency required in both English and Romanian: spelling, grammar, vocabulary;
  • Prior experience in NGO work, especially with children, a strong asset. Child protection attitude a requirement;
  • University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields.

In Romania Terre des hommes (Tdh Ro) has been active since 1992. For the past few years, the delegation has been working on three main intervention areas: (1) Strengthening child protection and juvenile justice systems, (2) Protection of children affected by migration/trafficking, and (3) Social inclusion of minorities. Every year thousands of children and their families benefit from projects implemented either at a national or regional level. The current team is composed of 18 staff consisting of a delegate, a finance/HR/Admin team, a programmes team and a knowledge management team.
