Sergeevka, Ukraine, June 13, 2013: As part of the “Building a common approach to children” project, Tdh Moldova provided a training for 33 teachers from Falesti district and Transnistrian region. The professionals from both banks of Nistru River had the opportunity to interact on a neutral territory (Ukraine) for 3 days. The joint learning and exchange aimed to improve the abilities of the participants to prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of children more effectively.

May 20, 2013, Chisinau, Moldova: The Inspectorate-General of Police of Moldova (IGP) and Terre des hommes have signed a Cooperation Agreement that aims to strengthen the common efforts to promote and protect children's rights in Moldova. May 14, 2013, Tirana Albania: After years of lobbying of NGO partners and based on the Law of 2010 on the Protection of Children’s Rights, the Municipality of Tirana has finally approved the allocation of 4 million ALL (28.000 Eur) through a Decision of the Municipal Council for the recruitment of 11 social workers to identify and manage cases of children at risk or victims of abuse in each district of the capital.

Mario calls on local governments to strengthen their child protection mechanisms

19 April, 2012, Tirana, Albania: In collaboration and with financial support from Mario project partners in Albania, Terre des hommes (Tdh) and Save the Children, the Albania State Agency for the Protection of Children’s Rights at the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (MoLSAEO) organized a national conference with an aim to promote the role and emphasize the responsibility that local government units have in building an effective child protection system in the country, with preventative and responsive mechanisms to all forms of violence against children. In Albania, local governments are responsible for local arrangements for protecting children and young people. They have decision-making power to set up structures and mechanisms, as well as to allocate budgets. Their responsibilities and obligations extend towards securing local prevention, integration, rehabilitation and protection measures for children.

Positive teacher-parent relationship through a new approach

Unfortunately the meetings are often characterized by requests for additional funds or a formal discussion about the children’s performance which is rather a turn-off for most parents. Terre des hommes wanted to help schools change these meetings in order to develop positive relationships between the school and parents as an important part of each child’s education.
MOVE games to be incorporated in residential institutions
